Here's a quick tip on how to get a shorter URL for your Facebook Fan Page.

Want a shorter URL for your facebook Page?

Of course you do- typing in something like https://www.facebook.com/Webgears-990440801071336/ is not a very friendly way for people to find you on  facebook. A shorter URL is something you can easily obtain with a simple requirement of reaching at least 25 likes- once you get to this level, simply click on the @username on your page (directly below your Page Name and Profile photo) and choose a shorter username and this will become the right hand side of your URL.

Here is the username and new URL we chose:

https://www.facebook.com/webgearsdotcom which also has a slightly shorter URL as https://fb.me/webgearsdotcom -- don't worry, facebook will give your the information. Be sure to take note of the URLs - it's best to use copy and paste to avoid a typing error. 

Naturally, we would prefer simply "webgears" but that name is already in use- and usernames are unique. Which is yet another reason to quickly get your page up to the required number of likes so that you can lock your name or brand before someone else fetches it.

Facebook terms and conditions are subject ot change and they do not permit "cyber squatting" -- but they also will not prevent another business or person with the same or similar name from using it on facebook.
